STUDIO SPACE, DALSTON

The brief for this narrow, raised outdoor terrace was to add life and colour to the space while allowing flexibility for different furniture and props to be introduced for photo shoots, corporate events and a breakout space for employees.

To enhance the structure of the space we designed a shade-loving planting scheme for the rear of the terrace which was in constant shade due to the surrounding tall buildings.

Planting a tree here added height to the greenery and prevented the garden from being overwhelmed by the height of neighbouring buildings.

The timber arch was introduced to add another layer of height to the garden that would also serve to frame the view of the soft planting. Vines planted at the base of the arch will grow to cover the structure; further 'greening up' the elevated aspect of the design.

In addition, grasses and perennials created a feeling of seclusion for the seating area overlooking Regent’s Canal.
